If you have ever finished a 250g jar of marjoram honey faster than you expected, the 800g is built for that moment. It is the same Raw Filtered marjoram honey from Hive 3 in Fayoum — same beekeeper, same season, same minimal handling — only in a size that respects how it is actually used in a kitchen that runs on it.
This is not a different honey. It is a quieter, more honest format. The reason we keep recommending the marjoram honey 800g jar is simple: people who fall in love with marjoram do not stay on entry sizes for long.
Who the 800g jar is for
The 250g jar exists for one job — to let a new customer try marjoram honey without committing to a kitchen-sized purchase. That is the right way to start. But once marjoram has settled into a daily ritual, the 250g size starts to feel like it is always almost empty.
The 800g jar is for the household that has already crossed that line. If any of these sound familiar, you are the customer this size is built for:
- You take a spoonful in the morning, in tea, or before sleep, more days than not.
- You bake or marinate with honey at least twice a month.
- Marjoram is the jar your guests reach for, not the citrus or the clover.
- You order honey for the household, not just for yourself.
- You like to keep one jar in the kitchen and one in the pantry — never running out.
This is the size that earns its place on the daily table. It moves slower than you think because it lasts longer, and faster than you think because you reach for it more.
Why 800g, not 950g
You may notice that the rest of our jar sizes follow a simple ladder — 250g, 400g, 450g, 800g, 950g — and wonder why we settled on 800g for the marjoram daily-use size.
The reason is practical. 800g is the largest size that still fits comfortably on a normal kitchen shelf, in a normal hand, and on a normal breakfast tray, without becoming the jar that lives at the back of the cupboard. 950g is a beautiful size for gifting and for households that go through honey at a faster rate, but for daily kitchen use we have found 800g is the sweet spot.
If you prefer the 950g, we have it. If you prefer two 400g jars instead, we have those too. The 800g is the one we recommend when someone asks: "I just want the right size for the family, every day, no fuss."
What is in the jar
The 800g jar contains the same honey as our 250g and 400g marjoram sizes. Nothing changes between formats:
- Source: Hive 3, Fayoum, from the same long-time beekeeper we have worked with for years.
- Floral profile: dominantly marjoram (the wild Egyptian herb, not commercial marjoram extract), with the small wildflower notes any honest monofloral honey carries.
- Handling: raw, gently filtered to remove wax fragments and large debris, never heated, never blended.
- Texture: thick, slow-pouring, a deep amber that turns golden against light.
- Aroma: herbal, almost wine-like, with a long finish that is unusual in Egyptian honey.
If you have ever opened a jar of supermarket "herb honey" and wondered why it smelled flat — this is the answer. Marjoram honey done at small scale, from a placed apiary in herb country, is in a different category.
The cost-per-spoon argument
People sometimes ask whether the larger jar is "worth it" beyond the obvious convenience. We do not like to be defensive about price, but the math is honest:
A 250g jar of our marjoram honey holds roughly 16 to 18 generous spoonfuls. The 800g jar holds roughly 50 to 55 of the same spoonfuls. If you take one spoon a day, the 800g is somewhere between a six-week and an eight-week supply for one person, or a three-week supply for a household where two people are taking their morning spoon and a guest gets the occasional cup of tea sweetened with it.
Per spoon, the 800g is meaningfully more economical than the 250g. We are not running a discount on the 800g — the lower per-spoon cost is built into the size itself, the way a 1L bottle of olive oil is built to be cheaper per millilitre than a 250ml bottle. That is normal. We mention it only because some customers assume a bigger jar means a bigger gamble. It does not, when the honey is the same honey.
Storage in a hot kitchen
Egypt's summers are not gentle on pantries. A common worry with the 800g size is whether the honey will last well in a household where the jar takes two months to finish.
The short answer is yes — raw honey is one of the most stable foods on earth, and our 800g jar will keep its character for years if stored sensibly. The longer answer:
- Keep the jar tightly closed when not in use.
- Store at room temperature, out of direct sunlight, away from the stove.
- Do not refrigerate — it speeds up crystallisation and dulls the aroma.
- Use a clean, dry spoon every time. The single biggest cause of jar spoilage is moisture, not time.
- If the honey starts to crystallise, this is normal — marjoram honey is naturally slow to crystallise, but it will eventually. Crystallised honey is not spoiled honey. A warm-water bath restores it.
The reason we are confident in recommending the 800g size to households of all sizes is that, with reasonable care, the last spoon out of the jar tastes the same as the first.
Why we do not blend the 800g
Some Egyptian honey brands sell large jars at a lower per-gram price by blending honey from several beekeepers, several regions, or several seasons into a single batch. We understand the math, but we do not do this. The 800g jar is filled from the same Hive 3 batch as the 250g and 400g — same blossom, same harvest, same beekeeper.
It is the same logic we apply across every size. Every jar carries a hive number for a reason: if we cannot tell you exactly which apiary the honey came from, we will not put a label on it. The 800g format does not change that rule.
