Frequently Asked Questions

Honest answers about our honey, our sourcing, and how we work.

At Haydara, we'd rather you know exactly what you're buying than simply trust a label. If your question isn't answered here, contact us directly at haydara.com/contact — we respond personally.

About the Honey

Is Haydara honey authentic and pure?

Yes. We work directly with small, named apiaries across Egypt — not through brokers or bulk intermediaries. Every batch is assessed by us before purchase: we evaluate taste, aroma, texture, and consistency. We do not blend honey from unverified sources.

To learn more about how we source and verify, read our full sourcing page.

What is the difference between raw honey and pasteurized honey?

Raw honey is extracted from the hive and bottled with minimal processing — no heat above the natural hive temperature, no fine filtration that removes pollen or beneficial enzymes. It retains its full aroma, natural variation in color, and tends to crystallize over time. This is considered the closest form to honey as it exists in the hive.

Pasteurized honey is gently heated and filtered to produce a smoother, more uniform texture and to delay crystallization. It is still real honey — we do not add syrups or extend it — but it has been processed slightly more.

The International Honey Commission provides international standards for honey quality that inform how we evaluate what we sell. Browse our products page to see both options.

Why does my honey crystallize?

Crystallization is a natural property of real honey. It happens because honey is a supersaturated sugar solution — glucose separates from water and forms crystals over time. It does not mean the honey has gone bad or been adulterated.

In fact, pure raw honey crystallizes faster than processed honey. To reliquefy, place the sealed jar in a bowl of warm water (not boiling). Never microwave honey — it destroys its natural character.

Heavily processed or adulterated honey often does not crystallize because it has been diluted with other syrups. Crystallization is a sign of integrity, not a defect.

Does honey expire?

Honey does not expire in the traditional sense. Archaeological honey found in Egyptian tombs thousands of years old has been found still preserved — honey's low moisture content and natural acidity prevent microbial growth. However, its quality, aroma, and depth of flavor are best within 2–3 years of harvest.

For best results, store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not refrigerate — cold accelerates crystallization. See our storage guidance below.

How should I store Haydara honey?

  • Keep the jar sealed tightly when not in use.
  • Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Do not refrigerate.
  • Use a clean, dry spoon — moisture introduced into the jar can affect quality.
  • If crystallization occurs, warm the jar gently in a bowl of warm water.

Can honey support health?

Raw honey contains natural enzymes, antioxidants, and trace minerals. Many people use it as a daily dietary staple — in warm drinks, on food, or by the spoon. Research published on platforms like PubMed (NIH) has explored raw honey's nutritional properties.

We do not make medical claims. If you have specific health conditions, consult a qualified health professional. What we can say: what we sell is real honey, with nothing added and nothing removed that matters.

Sourcing & Traceability

Where does Haydara honey come from?

Our honey comes from apiaries across Egypt, including regions such as Fayoum, Sharkiya, and Tanta. Each region produces honey with distinct character, influenced by the surrounding flora and climate.

We work with small beekeepers — not large-scale industrial suppliers — and visit them directly. We prioritize long-term relationships built on trust over low-cost bulk procurement. Read more on our Our Honey page.

What does the hive number on the label mean?

On selected products, we include the specific hive or batch number the honey came from. This means you can trace your jar back to a named apiary, a specific hive, and a harvest period.

This level of traceability is uncommon in the Egyptian honey market. We include it because we believe you have the right to know exactly what you're buying — not just "Egyptian honey" as a generic category.

Do you mix honey from different sources?

We do not blend batches from different apiaries into a single jar and label it generically. When a product is regional — Fayoum citrus honey, for example — it is from that region. We are honest about what is in the jar.

How do you verify beekeeper quality?

We visit apiaries in person, assess hive health and practices, and taste and evaluate honey before purchase. We do not rely solely on beekeeper claims. Relationships we've built over time give us additional verification through repeated consistency. Our sourcing philosophy is explained in full on our sourcing page.

Do you deliver across Egypt?

Yes. We deliver across Egypt. Delivery timelines and fees depend on your governorate and are shown at checkout. For bulk orders or corporate gifting, contact us at haydara.com/contact for arrangement.

Is Haydara honey suitable as a gift?

It is one of our most common use cases. Haydara honey is packaged thoughtfully and arrives with a clear story behind it — which makes it a meaningful gift rather than a generic one.

For gifting, we recommend our honeycomb or regional raw honey options. If you're unsure which to choose, tell us who you're gifting and we'll recommend what fits. Contact us at haydara.com/contact.

Why is Haydara honey priced the way it is?

We source from small producers, not bulk suppliers. We select every batch individually — by taste, aroma, and consistency. We practice traceability, which takes time and relationship-building. We pack and deliver carefully.

You are not paying for a brand story. You are paying for what that story requires in practice: real sourcing, real selection, and honest handling. If you want to start with a smaller jar to decide for yourself, our 250g options are a good entry point.
